Summary

Six Races, Six Podiums, No First Places. I tried my darndest and ran my personal best lap of 1:53.6. I had multiple podiums, battles, and improvements and can feel solid about this race season. It was the last race round at the Ridge this year and it was a banger.

Saturday

I showed up feeling ready to ride. I’d managed to spend the end of the last Track Time day putting in some speedy laps and it definitely helped me get up to pace. Unfortunately the mixed conditions on Saturday sapped some of the confidence I built up and I put in a mediocre qualifying. Every race I was starting from the 3rd or the 4th row.

Qualifying behind Andy DiBrino. If I'd done a better job negotiating traffic I might have got a tow and set a better time. On a positive note, starting back in the order did give lots of opportunity to work on my passing!

In Saturday’s races I had some okay starts, pretty quickly getting to the top 5. I’d spend a few laps picking through, but in two of the races Andy DiBrino was definitely motivating Nathan Aldrich to keep the pace up. By the time I was through the pack and in 3rd they are far ahead of me. We’d finish MW SBK and MW GP in the same podium order.

Andy DiBrino had to take off before awards so we made our own Podium for Saturday's MW SBK and MW GP races.

The final race of Sunday, 450 SBK, didn’t include Andy, which mostly explains my 2nd. This was also when I noticed that Andy had been hustling Nathan a bit. I finished +0.17 seconds behind him to take 2nd. It was closer than I’d expected.

Some of the traffic I had to get through. The grid is pretty stacked so they aren't slouches!

Sunday

I took the momentum I’d built over Saturday and got to it! In the first race of Saturday I didn’t get an excellent start. I hustled my way through the grid though. By the time I got to 2nd in this race the gap to Nathan was pretty chunky but I just kept my head down. I managed to pass Nathan on the penultimate lap and make a bit of a gap. Unfortunately I came up on a lapper in an inconvenient spot. Nathan capitalized and ended up passing me as we negotiated traffic. And like that I found myself in 2nd place anyway. I almost got him at the line, finishing +0.064 seconds. That’s about a wheel. When I got back to the pits I looked at my laptimer and found I’d been doing pretty consistent 1:53.6’s, which is distinctly not slow on a twin!

Did manage to lead a lap before Nathan Aldrich did a sneaky job getting around a lapper better than I did!

The next race was rather similar. I wasn’t able to get close enough to go for the pass at any point. We finished close, but I took another 2nd. Unlike the previous race I remembered to turn the camera on.

Congratulations Nathan on all of the First places. I'm glad to have been in 2nd for most and 3rd for a few of 'em.

The final race of Sunday was a bit different. Nathan wasn’t in this one and a new challenger appeared, Ryan Floer. Ryan is a new racer with WMRRA, but they come with some experience from car racing, and it showed. Ryan got a stellar start and that ultimately was the difference. I got to his wheel about half way through the race, tried to pass him just about every way I could think of and he managed to keep me behind. It was super fun, even if I couldn’t seal the deal in this one either.

Congratulations to Ryan for a 1st place on an expert grid. I look forward to racing more together next season.
